User Roles & Permissions

Stockroom supports four user roles. Use this page to understand what each role can and cannot do before inviting team members.

Role Descriptions

Owner	Full access to all features, including exclusive owner-only controls such as billing, organization settings, and role management.
Admin	Full access to all day-to-day features. Cannot access organization-level settings or change another user's role.
Read Only	Can view all items, prices, invoices, and history — but cannot edit, create, or delete anything.
Stock Updater	Narrowest access. Can view and navigate items, scan barcodes, and update quantities only. Prices, invoices, reports, and all management features are hidden.

Key Takeaways

Owner is the only role that can manage the organization itself (preferences, billing, deleting the org) and is the only one who can change another user's role. The Owner role is never assignable through invites — only the account creator holds it.
Admin is functionally identical to Owner for day-to-day operations (creating, editing, exporting) but has no access to org-level settings or role management.
Read Only can see everything (items, prices, invoices, history) but cannot change anything.
Stock Updater has the narrowest access — they can only view and navigate items, scan barcodes, and update quantities. Prices, invoices, reports, and all other management features are hidden entirely.
